INFLAMMATION! Is this the underlying culprit to your psoriasis? Might you have toxins building in your bloodstream? According to Dr. Pagano in his book Healing Psoriasis, toxic buildup is what actually causes psoriasis. He does not actually mention inflammation as a cause of psoriasis, but I believe that there is a connection.
As there are toxins floating around in your bloodstream, your immune system is working overtime to wipe these toxins out, thus inflammation. The same as healing a wound or injury, inflammation brings about healing. Well not so much the case when your immune system has gone haywire trying to get rid of these toxins. There is just too much inflammation. So…….how can we get rid of this excessive inflammation, easy, get rid of the toxins. Here comes the reason for the inflamed skin (psoriasis, excema, acne, etc.).
The skin is one of the avenues the body has as an escape for impurities or toxins. Thus Dr. Pagano suggests that we first clean out the system, followed by ingesting the right types of foods. In my opinion, the typical diet consists largely of things that the body does not need and cannot tolerate, such as artificial ingredients, too much sugar, and I could go on but you get the point. In the book, he suggests going on a diet, of sorts, by eating only apples, or fruits (fruits are known to be body cleansers) and then following that with a “cleaning out” method, if you get my drift.
Well, my meal plan yesterday consisted of apples and water for breakfast and snack. I think I had one every two hours with a bottle of water, I did throw in a banana for lunch, then I had my regular dinner. I refuse to do a “cleaning out”! I’ve never had any problem in that area and certainly do not want to borrow trouble so I’ll leave well enough alone. I have to say that the 5-6 apples have not begun to “speak” to me yet so I may have to end up doing another day of apples, followed by some sort of laxative. I would rather do the laxative than the other methods. Although I have never used either and I am kind of fearful of doing so. Something I have been adhering to is drinking the herbal teas that Dr. Pagano suggests, American Yellow Saffron and Slippery Elm Bark.
Next plan of action
After deciding whether I need to do another apple diet, I will move on to a clean eating diet. I will be focusing on whole foods, as many of them raw as I can. Meanwhile I am still concentrating on eliminating all nightshades from my diet; white potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant and tobacco. I have also been putting an emphasis on the Alkaline Diet because when the body is acidic, it is grounds for accumulating disease. I remember reading a phrase, I am not sure who it came from, ‘disease cannot live in an alkaline environment’. I am inclined to agree, as most debilitating and degenerative diseases are rooted in toxicity and inflammation where the underlying cause is an acidic environment inside the body.
Struggling to manage psoriasis, or any kind of issue can be very stressful. Amid the struggle, don’t forget to take time out and relax a spell. It’ll do ya good!! I encourage you to check out Dr. Pagano’s book, “Healing Psoriasis, The Natural Alternative” I will be discussing excerpts from the book for the next couple of weeks.
