We Have A Choice to Make
Whether we want to lose weight or save money, we have a choice to make. It all starts with our habits.

Habits, good and bad, we all have them!
5 good habits that I try to practice everyday
1- Eat sensibly. Never go on a diet!
“diet” has been made into a dreaded nightmare. The definition of diet, according to dictionary.com, is a particular selection of food, especially as designed or prescribed to improve a person’s physical condition or to prevent or treat a disease. It can also be described as the foods eaten, as by a particular person or group. In my household the word diet is only described as what we eat. NOT A RESTRICTED EATING PLAN. I have never been one to go on a “diet”, and nor I do I have a special eating plan, I am not blessed with a wonderful metabolism, and yes I constantly think about food. If you have been following my blog, you know that I have an addiction to certain foods!! I try my best to eat sensibly, but I’ve just not been able to rectify my eating habits since the holiday this time around. Maybe its my age, I’ll be 40 in September. I don’t know, but I am continually working to kick this.
2- Always kiss my family good night. (and goodbye)
This needs no explanation! You never know what tomorrow may bring!
3- Drink water.
This is not always easy for me, as I am not very active, I don’t really sweat a lot, so I don’t seem to be very thirsty at times. Another thing is that when you start drinking things other than water, it is so hard to get back in the habit. One of my remedies for this is that I drink a lot of herbal teas so I can get my daily water intake. Bonus: go for teas that have medicinal benefits, actually that would be all of them! We will discuss herbal teas in another post.
4- Pray/talk to God
Many people think that in order to pray or talk to God, you have to make a formality of it. What I mean by this is some people feel the need to make a special time, in a special place, in a certain position to pray. Don’t get me wrong, this is a method that you should make time for, but it doesn’t always have to be that way. One of my best prayer moments is when I am driving, or as I am reading my Bible. These are times when I can get quiet and devote my thoughts to him.
5- Never lie.
I believe in telling the truth! That’s just the way it is. Be prepared to step on toes, feel like you’re being left behind, and just outright not liked by people. Sounds harsh, doesn’t it! But we live in a world full of people that will say anything to get what they want, and sadly that’s how many people get by in life. It is easy to tell a lie, isn’t it? But it is just as easy to tell the TACTFUL truth! Now, to be tactful is not to make up some smooth excuse, but to find a way to tell the truth so you don’t hurt others. Actually, it is not all that easy!!!!!
Just so you don’t think I am some kind of saint, (ha!) let me tell you some of my bad habits or inconsistencies! ‘Cause no one’s perfect, right!
1-Eat too much sugar.
Ok, so people if you have been paying attention you’d know that this is a major inconsistency of mine. The moderation plan does not work for me, therefore I try to stay away from any refined sugar. I know I can do it, as I have done it before. I just have to get back in the habit of it!
2- sit way too much
This is another habit that is wreaking havoc on my body. I just have to get moving! It is usually during the winter, especially when there is no snow to play around in. I just sit around, watch movies and eat! Sound familiar, anyone? One way I have conquered this before is to get up and walk around or at least get up and stretch when commercials come on. I try to move around or stay on my feet until the movie comes back on.
3-addicted to technology.
OMG, I did not think I would ever say that. But it is true. Right now, pinterest is my thing. I am trying to make a conscious effort to limit time to 15-30 minutes, which is hard when you have slow internet!
4-I hate to clean.
Have you ever heard of those people that just love to clean, well I am not one of those people! I loathe having to clean up. Something really ironic, you might call it that, I love to cook and bake and mess around in the kitchen. But I would rather do anything other than dishes.
One last thing; let me tell you about a habit I started after visiting the Dr.s office a couple years ago!
The Dr. old me I had high blood pressure. At the time, I had just lost about 14 pounds, and I was still trying to eat right and exercise. So she said that diet and exercise weren’t enough to keep my blood pressure down, I needed medication. Well it was during this time as I was trying to get healthier that I had discovered the power of herbal remedies, and I was also reading “Over the Counter Natural Cures”, by Shane Ellison. Anyhoo, the Doc gave me medication, I did not start taking it! There is a section in this book that discusses about the qualities of hawthorn. I started drinking 2-3 cups of Hawthorne berry tea a day, also known as the heart tea, it safely controlled my blood pressure. Just a little tidbit that I thought I should share. I shared this with my Dr. By the way, my levels weren’t very high, for me. I have a machine here at home and keep check on it myself. I still drink the ‘heart tea’ everyday and if I notice anything out of the ordinary dealing with my blood pressure, I just up the dosage. I love natural cures! Actually the deadly concoction of prescriptions today all started out natural at some point.
